One person has died following a crash near Whangārei on Thursday morning.
The two-vehicle crash on Ngunguru Rd was reported to police shortly after 10am.
One person died at the scene and a second person was taken to hospital by ambulance in a moderate condition, a police spokesperson said.
The road was closed on the approach to Ngunguru, between Kaiatea Rd and Old Mill Rd, and motorists were advised to avoid the area.

Northland Emergency Services Trust’s rescue helicopter was called to the scene but stood down en route, said base manager Steve Couchman.
Inquiries into the crash were ongoing, the police spokesperson said.
According to Northland Road Safety statistics, 34 people have died on Northland roads this year, 10% of the country’s 343 fatalities.
