Northland water emergency leaves one person dead, one in hospital

One person remains in hospital after a water emergency in Whangaruru that left one person dead.

Northland police were called to the scene yesterday morning around 10.30am.

Two people had made it back to shore, one was in a critical condition.

This morning police said the person was now stable in hospital.

A body has since been recovered from the water.

It is being formally identified and police are helping a coroner’s investigation.
