Woman charged with murder after Northland death

A woman has been charged with murrder over a death in in Northland overnight.

Police were called to a house on Houhora Heads Road in Pukenui shortly after midnight, finding a woman was found with critical injuries.

Detective Inspector Al Symons said “despite efforts from emergency services”, she died at the scene.

A 46-year-old woman was arrested at the house and charged with murder.

Symons said it was believed the women knew each other and it was an isolated incident.

“Police have been at the address overnight speaking to a number of witnesses who were in the area at the time of the incident.”

Police will remain at the scene on Thursday.

“We know those in the community will be shocked and concerned to hear of what has occurred in their community overnight,” Symons said.
