Emergency services are continuing to search for a diver missing in the Far North since Monday morning.

The diver did not return from a planned excursion near Herekino Harbour, southwest of Kaitāia, at about 10.30am on Monday.

Tuesday’s search is being run by police, Coastguard, Surf Life Saving NZ and a Northland Rescue Helicopter.

Local iwi Ngāti Kahu has placed a rāhui on the waters around the site, until further notice.

The rāhui runs from Taitea in Ahipara through to the whole of Whangape Harbour.

A police spokesperson said a search was also conducted on Monday by a Northland Rescue Helicopter, two Surf Life Saving inflatable rescue boats, a Coastguard fixed wing aircraft and police.
