Police in Northland have identified the man killed in Parakao last week.

He was 55-year-old Geoffrey Wayne Ware.

His death, at a rural property off Mangakahia Road, about 40 kilometres west of Whangārei, was initially treated as unexplained.

However, police later believed Ware was the victim of foul play.

In a statement, Detective Senior Sergeant Michelle Harris said police were “following some strong lines of enquiry”.

Officers are now seeking sightings and information regarding a 1999 blue and silver Mitsubishi L200 seen in the areas of Mangakahia Road, Otaika Valley Road and State Highway 14 towards Whangārei between 2pm and 8pm on Friday 9 May.

They are also looking for a man reportedly seen walking along State Highway 14 around that time.

Anyone with information is asked to make a report online, or by calling 105 and quoting the reference number 250509/6749. Information can also be reported anonymously to Crime Stoppers on 0800 555 111.
