Mother and son killed in Northland crash named

The mother and son killed when their car hit a tree and burst into flames in Northland have been named.

They were 86-year-old Marjorie Julia Cranstoun Mannion and 64-year-old Gerald De Vere Mannion.

The pair died in the single-vehicle crash on a section of State Highway 15, near Ōtaika, shortly after midnight on 24 January.

They could not be saved, despite the efforts of firefighters and St John Ambulance staff.

Police said their thoughts are with their family at this time.

Inquiries were continuing on behalf of the Coroner, police said.
