Northland will test its tsunami sirens on Sunday morning.

The region has more than 200 outdoor tsunami sirens in coastal communities.

The sirens will sound twice: first at 10am for 10 minutes, and then again at 10.30am for 30 seconds.

Both indoor and outdoor sirens will be tested at the same time.

These alarms are checked every six months.

Examples of what they sound like are available on the Northland Regional Council website.
