The victim of a Whangārei homicide has been named, as police warn about speculation on social media over the case.
Shayden Perkinson, 25, of the Whangārei suburb Raumanga was killed on Saturday.
The victim was reportedly assaulted by a group in an altercation near a petrol station Saturday night, but police are still investigating.
“We are aware of speculation online regarding the circumstances of what may have occurred and who may be responsible,” Northland District Crime Manager Detective Inspector Dene Begbie said in a statement.
“We continue to ask the public to be mindful of what is being shared so as to not jeopardise the police investigation.
“At this stage, no arrests have been made, however a further update will be provided when we are in a position to do so.”
Police said that anyone with information regarding the incident should contact them via the 105 phone service or online using Update My Report.
