Two people have been stabbed in the small Far North town of Moerewa.

Police said they are investigating an incident where two people have been wounded.

“Police are at the scene working to establish the circumstances of what occurred.”

A local said the Northland rescue helicopter was up and police were at the scene.

Police said they were not aware at this stage if either of the wounded had suffered serious injuries.

According to St John, two helicopters were sent to the scene around 3.30pm.

Early indications suggest two people are injured, they said.

An ambulance and a St John manager were also sent to the scene.
