Two people have died after a crash involving two vehicles in the Far North.

The crash was reported to police around 12.30pm on Tuesday.

Police later confirmed two people had died in the Kaingaroa crash.

One person died at the scene, while the other was taken to hospital in a critical condition but had since died, police said.

The serious crash unit had been notified and inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are underway.
