Two people have been arrested after an alleged firearm incident in Kaikohe on Wednesday morning.
Far North area investigations manager detective senior sergeant Mark Dalzell said armed police responded about 10am to a report of a gun being shot.
On arrival, police located an illegal firearm and the men, aged 21 and 49, were taken into custody.
The two men would appear in Kaikohe District Court on Thursday on a range of charges, including carelessly discharging a firearm and unlawful possession of a firearm, Dalzell said.

“Northland Police continue to hold to account those offenders involving themselves in firearms related violence in the Far North.”
Dalzell said the arrests followed a series of others police had made in connection with gun violence in the Far North in recent months.
The incident was not believed to be directly related to gang tensions in the area, he said.
“We have an extremely low tolerance for anti-social behaviour or violence in our communities and we welcome anyone who may have information on those illegally in possession of firearms to come forward.”
