Fire fighters are working to extinguish a large blaze in a shelter belt in Taipa, Northland.

Fire and Emergency shift manager Ryan Geen says two helicopters are on their way to help put out the fire, near Oruru Road.

He says strong wind has spread the fire and three crews are on the scene.
