A major road in Northland is closed on Saturday evening following a two-vehicle crash.

Emergency services are responding to a two-vehicle crash on Ngunguru Road, near East Rockingham Road, Glenbervie, a police spokesperson said.

The crash was reported around 5:50pm.

Two people have received moderate injuries and the road is expected to be closed for “several hours”.

Motorists are advised to delay travel if possible. If driving from the Tutukaka Coast, an alternative route can be taken via Matapouri and Marua Roads through Hikurangi to access State Highway 1.
