Two people died in crashes near Whangārei last wek. (File photo)
Two fatal crashes happened near Whangārei last week, and now Northland police are seeking witnesses.
The first crash happened just after 7pm on Friday June 9 on State Highway 1 in the Mata area, 15km south of Whangārei.
The crash involved a northbound blue ute and a southbound black-coloured station wagon, a police spokesperson said.
The crash was just north of the John’s Hill passing lanes and south of the Metal Pit by Hewlett Rd, north of the Mata Hall.

A 17-year-old passenger died at the scene.
The second fatal crash occurred at about 9.50am on Saturday June 10 at the intersection of Western Hills Drive and Percy St, Whau Valley, Whangārei.
The crash involved a silver-coloured hatchback and a white-coloured station wagon.
An 87-year-old driver of the hatchback later died in hospital.
