One person has died following a serious single-vehicle crash at Kaitāia late last night.

Police were called to Takahue Rd about 10pm.

A spokeswoman said the occupant of the car was transported to hospital.

Sadly, they died later.

Inquiries into the circumstances of the crash are ongoing.
