The police are appealing for witnesses following a suspicious fire at a property in Whangārei on 2 January.

Acting Detective Senior Sergeant Shane Pilmer said a car was found on fire on the front lawn of a house on Kiripaka Road at about half past five in the morning.

A passer-by alerted people in the house and helped them with moving another car so that it did not also catch fire.

This witness and anyone else with information was asked to contact police via 105 and quote file number 250102/5758.
