A person has died in a crash in Northland overnight.

Emergency services attended the crash between a car and a truck on State Highway 1 near Moerewa about 12.14am on Thursday.

“Sadly one occupant of the vehicle died at the scene,” police said in a statement.

Diversions were in place while the serious crash unit undertook a scene examination.

The road had since reopened.

“An investigation is now under way into the crash,” police said.
