Police are hunting for witnesses after a man’s body was found on a Northland section of State Highway 1 on Saturday morning.

Emergency services were called about 8:50am to a spot on Waipu Gorge Road and SH12, 13 kilometres South of Waipu.

Indications show the man was likely struck by a vehicle, police said in a statement.

Investigators are now appealing for witnesses to an incident on the stretch of road to come forward.

They said they were “particularly interested” in the area of Brynderwyn Summit and Artillery Road, between 7pm and 10pm on Friday evening.

Police are also looking for anyone with dashcam footage from anyone who may that may be of use to contact them.
