A large vegetation fire in Northland has now been contained.
Earlier, Fire and Emergency said it was using four aircraft and 25 firefighters on the ground to get the 177-hectare blaze under control.
It broke out late Saturday morning in the Gumfield region between Herekino and Ahipara.
The area is remote and Fire and Emergency said there had been no threat to homes or people.
On Sunday afternoon, Fire and Emergency said there was no active fire front, and it was working with forestry firefighters, heavy machinery and helicopters to ensure the containment holds.
“Tonight specialist drone crews will be conducting thermal imaging to check for hotspots,” Fire and Emergency said in a statement,
“From tomorrow, crews will be on the ground checking for any smouldering hotspots.”
It said the fire had a perimeter of 7.1 kilometres.
