Multiple agencies are investigating an incident at Whangārei Hospital after an elderly woman died after allegedly being dropped from a stretcher.

Debra Larson, general manager of ambulance operations for St John confirmed the incident happened in the ambulance bay at the hospital on May 12.

“An inquiry is underway, and we are working with all parties involved.”

WorkSafe and the coroner have both confirmed investigations are underway into the incident at the hospital.

A WorkSafe spokesperson confirmed the organisation had been notified of the incident and an investigation was ongoing.

A Ministry of Justice spokesperson also confirmed the case was now being investigated by the coroner.

Te Whatu Ora have been approached for comment on the incident.
