One person has been seriously injured in a crash on State Highway 1 near Mata, south of Whangārei on Friday night.
The crash was reported to police at 7.10pm.
“Initial information from the scene is that at least one person is seriously injured,” a police spokesperson said.
Waka Kotahi said State Highway 1 is closed between Hewlett Rd and Salmon Rd due to a “serious crash”.
Southbound traffic will be diverted at Springfield Rd, and northbound traffic at Salmon Rd.
The emergency crash unit has been called to the scene.
