The man accused of killing Kaikohe grandmother Linda Woods has pleaded not guilty to her manslaughter and can now be named.

Terrance Lowe Kiro, 52, appeared in Whangārei High Court today.

He has been charged with manslaughter, burglary and aggravated assault.

He did not seek further name suppression.

Kiro has been remanded in custody until his trial which is due to begin on 9 June, 2025.

Woods, 71, died earlier this month after being injured during a struggle when a person broke into her Taraire Street property.

Police said at the time she was attempting to intervene to help members of her family in the house at the time.

The offender fled barefoot without his shorts and sneakers following what police said was probably a sexually motivated burglary.

Police executed a search warrant on the same Kaikohe street where the attack happened, before announcing the arrest of a 52-year-old man.
