WRITE ON STUFF: Cyclone Gabrielle is closing in on Aotearoa and we’re keen to hear from those in the thick of it.

Following the devastating floods in Auckland last month, rain and wind is ripping through the country again.

The entire North Island and upper South Island are now under weather warnings as Cyclone Gabrielle intensifies, with a state of emergency declared in Tairāwhiti on Monday morning.

MetService now has Auckland and north of Auckland under its most-severe red warning for rain and wind, with Taranaki also under a red wind warning.

The rest of the North Island and upper South Island are under an orange warning, while parts of Waikato, East Cape, and the eastern side of the North Island are under orange warnings for rain. The East Cape has a red rain warning.

Tens of thousands of homes are without power across Northland and Auckland as severe wind gusts and rain lash the upper northern region. Some supermarkets are without power, retailers have shut up shop and parcels could be delayed as Cyclone Gabrielle thrashes the upper North Island.

The impacts are predicted to be widespread across the North Island in the coming days. We want Stuff readers affected by Cyclone Gabrielle to share safely their experiences.
