A 50-year-old Far North man has appeared in court charged with murder following a roadside death in the isolated community of Waimamaku.

The victim, who was 51, was found with serious injuries next to State Highway 12 last week.

The man accused of killing him appeared in Kaikohe District Court on Friday morning, where he was granted interim name suppression.

He is also charged with failing to allow police to search his computer, and possession of cannabis for supply.

Police earlier seized a Toyota ute they believed was involved.
