A 79-year-old Far North man has died after a crash in Mangōnui.

Just after 10pm, emergency services were alerted to a vehicle that had crashed into a ditch on State Highway 10 in Northland.

A female passenger was unhurt, while a man in the car had died, police said.

Police were investigating whether the crash was caused by a medical event.

Police said their thoughts were with the person’s whānau and friends and they were providing support.
